A well thought and well-written love scene will definitely have an edge but the condition is that it should be placed at the right time.
It’s all about building sexual tension between your characters, which gradually builds with the story. Its up to the writer how he sexually attracts his characters. There has to be a proper balance between the story line and the direction the story is heading and the sexual attraction of the characters. Their willingness to come close to each other should be handled along with their emotional involvement. The worst thing that can happen is that you make the love scene look unwanted in the story line. So just make sure you hit the right patch where your characters as well as the readers are ready for the love scene. It all depends on your creativity as a writer how you manage to build sexual attraction between your characters and on what basis you hold them back till that right time. It can be due to physical or emotional barriers between them. Build the tension and excitement in the reader too by making your characters come close with a kiss or foreplay but then take them away from each other. This tease will enhance the excitement in the reader too. So, its great to have a love scene in a romance novel, just make sure that it is well written and well placed and you will be surprised how many reader fall out of place after reading it.
